Judaism
The word Judaism covers the religion of the Jews, the theology, law and worship traditions of the Jewish people, the descendants of the Hebrews who lived in biblical times in the land of Israel. Religion" should not be understood in the strict sense of the word, as Judaism also encompasses content, codes of conduct, rites and laws. Judaism is based on the worship of God, of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who is One and Unique, described as Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Just and Merciful*.
The Creator becomes involved in the destiny of the Jewish people by bursting into history, as he did when they left Egypt. Until the year 70, worship was carried out in the temple in Jerusalem, where the priests officiated. After the destruction of the temple and the dispersion of the Jews throughout the world, the sacred scroll of the Torah, brought down by Moses on Sinai, took over from the temple. The study of the Torah and its commentaries gave rise to the Talmud (from the 2nd century BC to the 5th century), which codified the entire life of the Jews in the diaspora*.
Judaism is the oldest religious tradition of exclusive monotheism still practised today. The values of the history of the Jewish people are at the root of the Christian and Muslim religions*.
Judaism is strongly marked by its special covenant with God. However, it recognises that if a non-Jew practises the commandments he will have the right to the future world, which is why Judaism does not seek to convert*.
